FAQ:  Crowns or Veneers?

Question:
I have a crowned tooth but it doesn't look good, very unnatural looking. I want to change it with veneers. Is it possible? ...Visitor from Philippines

Answer:
It is unlikely that the tooth can be retreated with a veneer. Since a veneer cannot be reliably placed on a porcelain crown, it requires that the current crown be removed.

Due to the amount of tooth prep that is normally done to accommodate the crown, there is probably insufficient structure for the veneer to adhere to. The most reliable and predictable treatment would be to get a different crown.
