Question:
My son fell from his booster seat face forward last week.
There was bleeding in his mouth and swelling of his upper lip. There appeared to be no damage to his teeth at all. All was well we thought, healed by Sunday.
Now I notice his gums and front 2 teeth appear gray. I'm scared senseless and have called his pediatrician. Is he in danger of losing his front teeth? ...Visitor from CA
Answer:
Discoloration of the tooth structures indicate a significant interruption in nutrient supply, commonly interpreted to be a strong sign of impending tooth failure.
Consult a periodontist, rather than a pediatrician, to get an accurate tissue level analysis of what has occurred, what damaged tissues exist and what treatment options are available to assure future adult tooth development occurs.
