Question:
I have had dentures for a year now and I am still producing a lot of saliva.
What can I do to stop this it gets so bad that my teeth move. Since I have both top and bottom dentures my mouth looks like it has dropped.
I look sad all the time. Now I am having trouble with my jaws popping and hurting which I did not before. What could be causing this problem? ...Visitor from TX
Answer:
I would suggest a second opinion on the dentures.
It sounds to me like your mouth is open too wide. Try swallowing with your dentures in, then take them out and swallow. I'll bet more saliva goes down without dentures.
Your mouth needs to close in a certain vertical dimension to be able to swallow effectively. Also, the popping and hurting jaws point to the same thing. The sad look is also probably related.
