Video: Diabetes and Gum Disease
Question:
When is best time to get dentures? I have type 2 diabetes.
I had to have my teeth pulled (all of them). When is the best time to be fitted for dentures? Teeth pulled one month ago.
The reason I had to have them pulled was they keep breaking off and also I had periodontal diasease. I would like to get the best fit! ...Visitor from MN
Answer:
I assume you are quite young and want your smile ASAP so I would have your dentist make the dentures now!
If you can afford to have them, make Lang Duplicates or embarassment dentures at the same time. As your dentures loosen and you require more adhesive your dentist will discuss relining them with you.
They will send the dentures in for a new application of acrylic to improve the fit. Tissues will continue to heal and shrink for up to 6 months after extractions.
Then they can fit the embarassment dentures while you are waiting for your teeth to be relined. The spare dentures protect you in case you ever lose a tooth or crack your denture. Best of luck.
