FAQ:  Discolored Teeth

Question:
Last week my 3 year old son's front tooth started to darken and become discolored.

We took him to his pediatric dentist and she said he probably fell and injured it and we weren't aware of it. She took x-rays and said the tooth looked OK and we would monitor it.

She didn't say if there was any treatment to help with the discoloration.

It has since gotten darker and I really would hate to think that he will have to leave it like that untill it falls out...is there anything to do to help with the discoloration of the tooth? ...Visitor from NC

Answer:
Unfortunately, no. Teeth whitening products aren't recommended for children's teeth. A cosmetic crown might be an option, assuming the tooth structure is healthy.
