Dry Socket: Symptoms - Relief
Question:
Prevent Extraction Healing Problems: My 12 year old son has a tooth below his permanent tooth on the bottom.
One oral surgeon wants to extract and stitch while another wants to extract and do a bone graph. Will bone grow in and fill in space if we do not do bone graph? ...Visitor from GA
Answer:
For most or many patients, extraction sites will fill in with new bone, on it's own, to some extent. One is essentially relying on Mother Nature to do her handiwork well.
Oral health issues, medication regimens, smoking habits, certain eating habits, or food preferences (among other unknown variables), can interfere with and/or prolong the healing process in an unpredictable fashion.
Obtaining a socket graft is the "cadillac" treatment for a tooth extraction. Socket grafts fill the hole instantly with bone regeneration material that rapidly develops into solid bone and osseointegrates well with the surrounding bone.
The extra advantages are most likely no problems with dry socket, bleeding, pain and discomfort.
