Dry Socket: Symptoms - Relief
Question:
Dry socket pain after 2 months: My daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth removed a couple of months ago. 3 teeth healed just fine but her lower right developed a dry socket.
The oral surgeon did the clove oil packing every other day for a week. The incision healed over however she still has alot of pain that radiates in her jaw and shoots up into her ear.
This has been going on now for about 2 months. Is this normal? He mentioned she would most likely have pain for a while. ...Visitor from CT
Answer:
If the pain "precisely" starts at an extraction site, investigate the possibility of a root tip fragment that was left behind.
This event is not uncommon with molar extractions. Oftentimes, it requires the use of a cone beam ctscan to successfully "find" these tiny fragments. It MUST be removed, otherwise infection
could become deeply seated in the jawbone and become more difficult to treat.
Periodontists who have a cone beam ctscan seem to be the best resource for this type of treatment.
If the pain source is more generalized then there may be a neuromuscular event taking place caused by a change in bite after the extractions. In that case, get some consults with dentists who have experience in tmj or neuromuscular dentistry.
