Question:
If you install the standard implants in the lower jaw and it takes up to six months for the bone to heal around the implant, do you have to go without dentures during this time? ... Visitor from SC
Answer:
It depends upon the skills, creativity and resourcefulness of your dentist.
Many implant dentists will place "provisional implants" while the traditional implants are healing.
This enables the use of various denture products so the patient doesn't have to be toothless and uncomfortable while waiting for full osseointegration to complete.
For some patients, their current denture products can be modified to use these special provisional or mini implants. In situations where the current denture is inadequate, a provisional denture can be made to fit onto the provisional implants.
