Question:
Replace abscessed tooth with mini implant? I have one upper abscessed tooth which will probably have to be pulled.
Could I use a mini implant to replace that one tooth? ...Visitor from PA
Answer:
The use of mini implants is best used to help hold in a bottom denture. By placing 2-4 mini implants in the lower jaw the stress of a bottom denture is not a factor in holding it in place.
To replace an upper tooth (you did not mention what tooth needs to be replaced) you need a strong regular sized titanium implant to be able to function well and withstand the heavy occlusal biting forces similar to natural teeth.
Single tooth replacements with dental implants are a great way to replace a lost tooth. An implant helps to retain and keep the jawbone from wearing away (bone resorption), and prevents having to cut down the teeth on either side of the gap to place a fixed dental bridge.
