Question:
Dentures - Implants: I just purchased dentures, actually got them yesterday. I did not realize just how much I would despise them.
Can the upper be supported with implants without the hard nasty palate? Can they do mini implants like they can do for the lower denture? Thanks, an unhappy RN ...Visitor from OH
Answer:
Having dentures can be really difficult. There is an emotional component of losing your teeth and the physical part of having the plastic part over the roof of your mouth.
The IMTEC mini implant can be really wonderful to reduce the size of the denture and also to not allow the denture to move around.
The important thing to remember that to have any implant, there has to be enough bone. The great thing about the Mini Implant is that it requires less bone then conventional implants. The other great thing is that the day the implant in placed you can usually attach the denture right away.
After you wear your denture then the palate can usually be reduced so you feel like you have less in your mouth. I wish you luck and get those Minis. I think you will be much happier.
