Video: Implants for Congenitally Missing Teeth
Tooth Replacement Choices

Question:
I lost a tooth more than 5 years ago. I have consulted with two dentists regarding the missing tooth today.

They both have said that nothing can be done about it as the gap in the muscle has filled and it won`t be possible to place an artificial tooth.

Any suggestions as to what can be done? ... Visitor from India

Answer:
Try getting consults with a Prosthodontist or an Implant Periodontist.

The usual recommendations for replacing a tooth that has been missing for a long period of time is a dental implant or a bridge.

A dental implant, although a little more expensive to perform, provides the best long term treatment result and is less invasive.

A dental bridge typically requires modifying (grind down) adjacent teeth to create "anchor" positions for each of the bridge.

Whether or not you need bone grafting can be determined by the dentist.
