When my son knocked out his front permanent tooth at 10 yrs., the dentist reimplanted and bonded it to his other front tooth. Now, at age 13, he needs braces. Unfortunately, x-rays show that the root where the fracture took place has a very large space indicating that the tooth must be removed. How does orthodontics work in a case like this? Should I find a specialized orthodontist? HELP!!
Answer:
While your son undergoes orthodontic treatment, the orthodontist can place a temporary fake tooth during this treatment while space is being symmetrically gathered for that missing tooth for the general dentist to replace eventually.
You asked if you need to find a specialized orthodontist... since an orthodontist is a specialist, make sure the orthodontist only practices orthodontics and nothing else in order to be a specialist.
