Orthodontics Ask The Dentist - Edward Leventhal Question:
I was born with a gap between my two front teeth. And I was wondering if braces are the only way to get gaps fixed or are there any other procedures to fix gaps between your teeth? Also I was curious to how long one would have to wear braces in order for the gap to be fixed. ..Visitor from NC

Answer:
If gaps are the only problem, then yes, braces are the right way to close them. It's usually around 8 - 12 months or braces. Usually this is followed up by a clipping of a 'frenum' between the upper two front teeth to reduce the chances of your upper two teeth from reopening.

You have to have a consultation to make sure that your teeth are properly sized, because if they are smaller than normal from the rest of your teeth, then there is a possibility you cannot close the gaps fully.
