Question:
My daughter has top two impacted incisors. She does have an appt. with an orthodontist. She has seen her pediatrician for the discomfort and she is taking tylenol with codiene. Will the the orthodontist be able to do anything the first visit? She seems to be hurting alot.
Answer:
If the two impacted incisors are permanent teeth, usually an x-ray would be taken to determine the position and any type of pathology that could be happening in that area. Reasons for pain associated with impacted teeth could be: a) gum associated - teeth are finally coming through and the gums are very sore and tender, or b) infection.
The orthodontist has to determine if the impacted teeth can be brought down with the help of an oral surgeon placing an attachment to these teeth, and the orthodontist pulling the teeth down in combination with braces. Good luck with you and your daughter!
