Question:
Year long pain in upper molar root canal:
Pain still exists one year post root canal in my upper molar.
What does this mean? ...Visitor from CO
Answer:
Pain a year after a root canal could mean many things.
Not all root canals are successful, so this may be the case. I don't know whether a general dentist or specialist (endodontist) did the root canal.
I would suggest a second opinion with an endodontist.
Root canals that don't work could be retreated (redo the root canal), or may need an apicoectomy and retrofill. This is where the dentist would go through the tissue and a small amount of bone at the end of the root and refill from the end of the root down.
Or, there could be another tooth that has inflamation of the nerve and is causing the problem. There is a lot of referred pain in the mouth where one tooth is causing the problem, but the pain is in another area. An endodontist would be a good evaluator of this.
